Minimalistic Magic

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT
A family of five in Melbourne is over the moon with their minimalist kitchen, which proves that simple, contemporary designs and colour schemes never date.
Colour Confidence Interiors designed this contemporary minimalist kitchen to fit the clients’ brief of maximum built-in storage, ease of use and spatial flow, while also incorporating a host of high-end appliances and fixtures.
Interior designer Michelle Broussard has more than delivered on this brief with the inclusion of matte black fingerprintproof laminate to all kitchen cabinetry and black Consentino Dekton Domoos benchtops, a product that is tough, highly scratch-resistant, durable and non-porous. A generous-sized butler's pantry with cabinetry and benchtops that matches the main kitchen conveniently houses all benchtop appliances and pantry essentials out of sight, as well as the dishwasher and much-loved entertaining essential – the wine fridge.
One of the most-used items in the kitchen is the Zip HydroTap in the butler’s pantry. “We also specified the Zip HydroTap Classic in this kitchen to make access to instant filtered boiling, chilled and sparkling water simple and easy for the family of five in their busy day-to-day lives of work, school, friends and activities,” explains Michelle. “Making a client's life easier on a daily basis and seamless to execute is a gift we can give and products such as Zip enhance that offering.”
DESIGN SOLUTIONS
A De Dietrich downdraft rangehood highlights the kitchen’s minimalist look, and the dumb waiter from the garage is super convenient and a real time saver. Dual ovens make light work of entertaining for a crowd with an over-sized refrigerator placed for ease of access.
Despite the dark colour scheme, the kitchen is flooded with light from the nearby staircase and lightwell. Light grey floor tiles also lighten the mood. Of particular interest is the application of the island with its two-tone grey-and-black colour scheme and a unique raised section which has been inset into the lower worktop area. The clever shadowline effect heightens the geometrical inset features and gives the island bench that touch of something special.
The high-end design presented challenges, however, when it came to the numerous cabinetry details and selection of suitable products that met both technology and specification requirements.
Despite this, the homeowners are absolutely delighted with their highly sophisticated kitchen, which flows out to the alfresco kitchen and enjoys views over the tennis court and pool, making entertaining easy and thoroughly enjoyable. “The client is in love with their large family home in Melbourne's suburbs and are very proud,” says Michelle. “They were over the moon when the kitchen was shortlisted in the KBDi’s 'Kitchens Plus' category for 2019.”
