The Winner and Runners Up of The Ocean Impact Pitchfest 2021 have been announced! Congratulations to Saathi, who are the very deserving recipients of the Plastic Pollution Solution Award, sponsored by Zip Water.

Innovation lies at the heart of what we do at Zip Water, and it’s been fantastic to see the next generation of innovators providing solutions to reducing plastic waste in our oceans.

Saathi from India has developed a solution to preventing conventional plastic-based sanitary pads from entering the ocean. Conventional pads take around 600 years to degrade and contribute to the approx. 8 million tons of plastic entering the ocean each year. 



Using renewable materials, the pads degrade within only six months – 1,200 times faster than conventional products. They are made from banana fibre and they do not contain bleach or chemicals. 

Whether it’s looking after the planet or looking after the wellbeing of our people and community, Zip Water champions doing the right thing for a more sustainable world. Reducing plastic waste is central to our sustainability commitments, and we’re excited to be supporting Saathi, who are tackling this issue head-on.

We’ve thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this brilliant initiative of Ocean Impact Organisation and look forward to watching the journey of Saathi unfold.
