DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT

This upmarket residential apartment complex required a kitchen design to entice the top end of town. St Kilda Road, Melbourne is an exclusive address so the brief for this residential apartment development needed a design befitting this elite location.

The idea was to create a limited number of apartments within the development to allow maximum flexibility around the planning and layout. This would enable owners and occupiers to individually tailor each apartment layout to suit their needs. The apartment sizes are also larger than average, starting at 200sqm and featuring expansive balconies and outdoor terraces for the ultimate in luxury living.

The display suite had to bring to life high quality finished apartments to help sell the idea of an upmarket lifestyle. Each kitchen is designed to include a sculptural island bench, fitted in quartz natural stone with a stunning flamed finish. The joinery below is clad in quartz stone to match, making the island an impressive eye- catching feature.

Each island includes two undermount sinks and an 80mm stone return which creates the shelf for the kitchen spout, mixers, pull-out spray and Zip HydroTap. The design allows for a minimum of two Zip HydroTaps in each apartment, with the Zip HydroTap Elite delivering boiling, chilled and sparkling water chosen to feature in the display kitchen.

Materiality was a key part of the design specification with colour, texture, tone and movement all carefully considered to ensure a cohesive end result.

DESIGN SOLUTIONS
Above all else, the design brief was to create a building that had never been seen before in the Melbourne market. From the calibre of the project to the level of customisation available, it was crucial that all elements be considered carefully to make the offering as enticing and possible to a potential owner.

For the display kitchen, a Zip HydroTap Elite with boiling, chilled and sparkling water was selected as it was the ideal way to showcase the functionality of the product to potential buyers. Offering filtered boiling, chilled and sparkling water, it represented a level of convenience and functionality within a high-class design keeping with the overall design aesthetic of the apartment development.

With a particular potential buyer market in mind, there were additional factors to consider from security and privacy to convenience and personalization. Bespoke, hand-crafted interiors representing the ultimate in comfort and style would offer purchasers a living experience far beyond luxury, so the overall goal was to ensure the kitchen was in keeping with the overall goals for the interiors.

An important consideration was natural light and ventilation which is sometimes difficult to achieve in apartment complexes. In the case of The Muse, the focus was on designing large, flexible living spaces that maximised exposure to the outdoor elements with a high element of flexibility within the layout to cater for individual requirements.
