Add some sparkle to your baking

 21 Dec 2016

Sparkling water is not only a great dinner table companion, drinking it with meals is great to facilitate digestion, but it also can be used in cooking recipes for some surprisingly delicious results.

Cake lift-off
Believe it or not, using Sparkling water in cake, results in the lightest, fluffiest, moistest cake you’ve ever dreamed of! Start off by whisking eggs with sugar, and then add oil, cake flour, chocolate and some chopped hazelnuts. Finish with a splash of sparkling water, and don’t be surprised if your batter starts to froth a little! Bake the cake for 50 minutes at 180° C and prepare for taste-bud lift-off!

Greener greens
Make you greens greener with the help of sparkling water. French chefs like Thierry Marx first experimented with cooking vegetables in carbonated water trying to find new ways to plunge veggies in other forms than salty water. Cooking vegetables such as beans and carrots in boiling sparkling water helps them stay crunchy and retain their original, vibrant colour- and it’s as simple as the touch of a button when you have a Zip HydroTap.

Tastier Tempura

Tempura is a Japanese traditional dish of mixed veggies and fish, uniquely battered and deep-fried and usually served as a starter before meals. The key to Tempura batter is to make it as light and airy as possible. Sparkling water can help you achieve the airiest batter for your Japanese cook-up. Simply mix your flour with chilled sparkling water from your Zip HydroTap, dip the vegetables, fish or prawns into the batter mixture and then deep fry until golden brown. Taste the difference of how sparkling water makes for the super crunchy and light Tempura!

Crazy-good crepes
There’s no shortage of crepe recipes out there. But did you realise that Sparkling water can make your tried and tested crepe method even tastier? Try this; simply replace some of the milk for an equal part of fizzy water. The result? The lightest and airiest crepes to ever come out of your frypan! Don’t forget to let the crepe mix sit for at least an hour before you start to cook them – this important steps remains unchanged! We love dressing them with Nutella, sliced banana and garnished with some walnuts. Yum!
